Top 10 pressure sensors

February 21, 2018The SnapEDA Team

As engineers, we know that pressure sensors are used in thousands of everyday engineering applications, across a wide range of industries. For example, they’re used in our coffee makers to control the dispensing of liquid, in medical devices at hospitals, and in heating systems to trigger alarms.

They measure the pressure, typically of liquids or gases, to help control and monitor applications, and can also act as a switch.

Pressure sensors work by sensing a deformation followed by a displacement, force or strain. A second sensor then translates this physical behavior into an electrical signal that represents the output of the pressure sensor.

There are many ways to measure pressure, including electromechanical, potentiometric, capacitive, piezoelectric, and reluctive sensors, as well as strain gauges. Pressure can be measured absolutely, meaning it’s zero-referenced against a perfect vacuum. It can be measured by gauge, which means it’s zero-referenced against ambient air pressure. Or it can be measured differentially based on two points of measurement.

When selecting a pressure sensor for your PCB designs you should consider the pressure measurement range, communication interface, stability, calibration capabilities, reliability, and compensation.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 Pressure Sensors on SnapEDA!*

Bosch already launched the BMP380 in January.

Wheres the ST LPS22HB? It outperforms all of these sensors.
